Opinion: trust-wide CPD is not a substitute for subject expertise (SAMPLE)
SAMPLE OPINION — Views are the author’s own. This article is placeholder content for the Edroom proof of concept.
The argument in brief
Trust-wide inset days can align values and policies, but they rarely shift classroom practice in maths, science or languages unless subject communities continue the work locally. Leaders who measure CPD success by attendance sheets rather than changed tasks in books will see familiar plateauing outcomes.
What I would do differently
- Protect fortnightly subject planning time with a non‑negotiable calendar hold.
- Pair trust messages with live modelling in departments, not slide decks alone.
- Publish a simple one-page theory of change so middle leaders know what “good” looks like.
